A Dandy Dog trainer will come to your home and work with you on teaching your dog new commands and work with any behavioral issues that your dog may be exhibiting.  At the end of each lesson, the trainer will give you homework so that you can continue working with your dog all week.

TRAINER PROFILE

For The Love of Dogs

Julie O'Connell, CPDT-KA, is nationally certified as a professional dog trainer through the CCPDT (Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers). She was born, raised and lived most of her life in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. She relocated with her husband, Tom, to the White Mountains in March 2018.  She now serves as a professional dog trainer in the White Mountain area.

Her passion for dogs began as a 4-year-old when her dad gave her a book on the different dog breeds.  Needless to say, that book was opened hundreds of times to look at and study the amazing dog breeds of the world.

The fascination with dogs continued as she picked out her first dog as a 10 year old - a miniature Dachshund she named Tena, that she trained in the obedience classroom.

The more she learned about the psychology of dogs, the more she realized how much humans really don't understand the very dogs who co-exist in their lives!  This prompted her to work with Carver-Scott Humane Society, a local humane society in her home town.  She created and taught classes that were delivered to the volunteers of the Humane Society, as well as the general public.  These included classes on Canine Behavior and Dog Body Language, Issue Resolution of the Rescued Dog, Obedience classes for levels 1-4, Canine Good Citizen Preparation.  She also started an in-home dog training business to serve people looking for better relationships with their dogs, and to help resolve issues such as separation anxiety, shyness/reactivity, jumping on people, potty training, walking nicely on a leash, longer Sits and Downs, etc..

In 2016-2017, Julie trained dogs for veterans who have come home with PTSD.  She trained through a non-profit organization in the Minneapolis, MN area.

Julie's current dog, Hoagie the Corgi, was her Agility competition dog.  Hoagie is now retired.

Julie often says, "Our canine friends are truly one of the most wonderful and amazing animals on the planet. They deserve to be taught as much as possible, to help them successfully exist in our very human world."
